Today Laura and I went with Tricia and Ms. Abrego to Joe’s Landing to take some pictures and interview some fishermen. We talked to a father and his two sons as they cleaned their catch of the day, 5 red fish and 3 speckled trot. Some of their fish were huge and I didn’t ask how much they weighed… bet I get in trouble for that one later.
I also talked to a guy who went alligator hunting last night and he was explaining to me how you grab their head from behind in order to catch them. No worries though, I will leave that to a professional. I guess I probably shouldn’t forget to mention my sudden onset of shakes followed by a bottle of water and a rather large bottle of gatorade which with the assistance of Tricia I managed to wear some of… but that’s ok. For the record, I am wearing white and the gatorade was grape. Surprisingly it wasn’t noticeable after it dried, so feel free to give it to your children. Oh and I’m okay.
We also stopped along Lafitte bayou and visited with a man sitting on his boat fishing. He was extremely kind and even went inside to get his son and nephew to come out and show us their catch. They had everything from catfish, perch, bass, and even a crab and were more than proud to show it to us. He then let me board his boat, which he built and named Bud Light Special, and take pictures.
Just got back to the hotel with Laura and we are working on our story while we wait on the others to return from Grand Isle.

You know, I think it’s just amazing getting to know about people’s everyday lives. Just being able to walk up to someone sitting on their boat behind their home on the bayou and chat about how the oil spill affected them is so cool! Anyway, I liked that Johnny’s Po’Boys restaurant and the candy apple shop today.. now it’s storywriting time!
