Day 1: New Orleans and new experiences

So today was pretty amazing. I experienced Bourbon Street, Creole food and beignets for the first time. Oh and on the way here I saw the Mississippi River. Actually I had never been to Louisiana until today or anywhere near the Gulf Coast so this is a great geography lesson in addition to an awesome culture shock. I loved talking to longtime oyster shuckers and oyster bar patrons who happened to be from San Antonio too. I met one shucker, Michael Jackson, that was just a cool New Orleans native. The restaurant welcomed us inside for interviews and were patient while we figured out the lighting for photographs. And, yes, that’s his name, I confirmed this by checking his state ID. Anyway Alison and I shared some Creole food and a burger just in case we weren’t crazy about the rice, beans and jambalaya. We went to some famous little cafe that Julysa claims is from the Princess and the Frog movie.. something about a french donut. (After further research we found that it was a different cafe) Besides being ridiculously messy the pastry was really good!

Right now the girls (me, Julysa, Zahra and Alison) are listening to Lady Gaga in the hotel suite in downtown New Orleans. Well actually it’s getting late so Julysa is trying to finish homework for Summer 2 and I’m figuring out this blog. Zahra and Alison are very smart and getting some sleep. Tomorrow I’m not too sure what’s on our plates, but I’m excited.
