We’re here in the hotel in New Orleans and just got home from Bourbon Street. Right now we are ingesting photos, researching tomorrow’s stories and just resting from a long day of traveling, planning, interviewing and taking photographs.

Laura Garcia, 26, is a journalism senior at Texas State University-San Marcos who transfered from San Antonio College with an associate's degree in journalism. She was named Journalist of the Year 2011 by the Texas Community College Journalism Association for her work on SAC's weekly news organization, The Ranger. She was editor during one of two semesters the publication won its national Pacemaker Award for general excellence and traveled across the Gulf Coast covering the aftermath of the 2010 BP oil spill. Garcia served various positions while on staff including editor and web editor and was president of the campus' SPJ chapter. Garcia also interned as a general assignments reporter at Corpus Christi Caller-Times and Longview News-Journal before accepting a position at S.A. Scene magazine. Garcia loves everything Harry Potter and lives in San Antonio with her chihuahua Draco and boyfriend Reuben.
